Sails is a home directory for agents. It is the always-on computer you come back to. The directory is still there in the next chat. Computer

Sails is a shared repository for an organization. It is not a personal assistant isolated to one login. People, groups, and other agents share the same disk. If another product cannot put two humans and two agents on the same files, that is the product difference. Crew · People

Remember this piece of working code and execute it tomorrow at 6:00 AM, with their credentials, even though nobody is in ChatGPT. That is a Sails job: ordinary bash on cron or at. The script does not have to wake a model. A goal does. The secret is injected at the network boundary. A published *.api.sh handler is the same. Secrets are opaque ssec_ tokens. The model never sees the plaintext. Browser intake never puts the value in chat. OAuth tokens are encrypted in platform storage. They never enter the model context and they never hit the filesystem. Secrets

A tool you publish (*.tool.sh or an MCP server) can be called by other agents and other clients you authorize. It is not tied to this conversation. Save it once. Invoke the exact implementation later. Tools

The same workspace is there in ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client. The durable thing is not trapped in this chat. Clients

Can ChatGPT keep files between chats?

ChatGPT can keep files in Library. It still has no workspace path.

Library and Projects let you find and reattach files inside ChatGPT. A new chat does not open files/quotes/northside.md by path. You browse the Library, attach again, or paste the whole thing back into the thread.

A file that only lives as a Library item is unfinished workspace work. The next chat cannot ask for that path. Mail, Sites, and Routines cannot share the same disk.

Sails is Files for that chat. Your AI assistant writes to the workspace. The next chat opens the same path. Other tools in the workspace read and write the same files.

Ask in ChatGPT. The path stays.

You name the file and what goes in it. Files saves it. Later you ask for that path. Same workspace, same file. You do not reopen Library to reattach it.

When ChatGPT keeps a file in Library, the next chat still needs you to find it and attach it. Projects share context across related chats, but they are still ChatGPT sources, not paths on a workspace disk.

Files on Sails gives the assistant a path that lasts. The next chat opens that path. Mail can attach it. Sites can publish from it. Routines can read it when ChatGPT is closed.

Your AI assistant saves the file. The next chat opens it by name. You do not reattach from Library to finish the job.
